A visit to the InnoTrans 2024
The 14th edition of InnoTrans took place in Berlin from September 24 to 27, 2024. The world's leading trade fair for transport technology attracted trade visitors from all over the world and provided the perfect platform for innovations and technological advances.
Amidst numerous innovations and world premieres, there was a special highlight for fans of large and small trains: the Electric Railcar BR 424 DB AG of the Cologne S-Bahn from BRAWA.
With the new transport contract for the Cologne S-Bahn network, the contractual partners go.Rheinland, VRR and DB Regio are relying on tried-and-tested technology in a new design – and it has even won an award! The ET 424 series vehicles that became vacant at S-Bahn Hannover in 2022 have been in use at S-Bahn Köln since April 2024 following extensive modernization. The vehicles have been given a new design impressing the jury of the prestigious “German Design Award 2024”.
The reliable and maximum 25-year-old vehicles, which are not yet at the end of their life cycle, are now gradually being modernized and put back into service for DB Regio. The central element of the redesign is functionality and aesthetics to meet the requirements of today‘s passengers. With these improvements, the ET 424 will not only remain an important part of regional transport, but also a symbol of innovation and progress in rail transport.
The BRAWA model has a faithfully reproduced front, which, together with the extra mounted high-voltage equipment and the air-conditioning boxes, give the H0 model an authentic appearance. Thanks to the functional and illuminated train destination display, finely detailed pantographs and filigree engravings, this model is a real highlight on any modelling layout.
